An Interpretive Adventure

We took a little trip up to Crawford Lake.  It's nice to take the 7-year-old as she's more interested in these things now.  She gets excited and asked me to email her the photos after.

For those of you that have never been to Crawford Lake, it's a recreated Iroquoian village (not to be confused with Iroquois).  In the 1970s, an archeological dig revealed that 15th century remains of longhouses existed on this site.  A meromictic lake lies close by and due to its pothole like existence it is nearly 100% anaerobic at a certain depth.  This allowed researchers to find preserved seeds and the evidence that a society of agriculturalists existed here.  Of course, the longhouses have been recreated and retrofitted with projectors, lights, etc.

Our fish friends.

A boardwalk surrounds Crawford Lake.  Makes for a nice interpretive walk.

*Mila* loved our turtle friend.  Her shell was covered with algae that flowed in the water like green sea-hair.

The twisted cedar ladies.  Tragically they are dead.  One side of the roots of the tree grew faster than the other causing the tree to twist.

What adventures do you have in store for the Long Weekend?  Hmmm?
